Journey into the Metaphysical World with The Blackthorn Grove

The Blackthorn Grove is not a storefront and it is not a club. It is a working practice, rooted in Norse and Celtic tradition, tended by one person who has spent decades listening to land, spirits, and the currents that run underneath ordinary life. Everything you find here grew out of that work. The clearings, the readings, the wyrd tools, the writing. None of it was built to fill a catalog. It was built because the work demanded it.

What the Grove Is

I work as a Vitki, a practitioner of the runes and the old Norse ways, blended with the Druid path of the Celtic world. Both traditions understood something we keep forgetting: the land is alive, it remembers, and it responds to those who approach it with respect. My work is mostly mediation. When a property, a home, or a person becomes tangled with something unseen, I step in, listen first, and negotiate restoration. Most of the time, working with energy brings far better results than fighting it. When something refuses to play by the rules, that is a different conversation, and I do not shy away from it.

The Grove is also where I make things. Wards, black mirrors, resin work, staffs, sound pieces, Etc., each built for a purpose. Nothing here is decorative. If it exists, it has a job.

The One Tending It

I'm Chris Hood. My path did not start in a workshop or end with a certificate, and I would not trust it if it had. Druidry(and life in general) taught me that the land is sacred, that every tree, stone, and stream carries its own spirit and story, and that the only way to learn from them is to show up, season after season, and listen. The Vitki path brought me the runes, not as symbols on a page but as living forces you build relationships with over years. Neither tradition can be rushed, and neither one graduates you. You walk them for life, and the walking is the point.

That walking has taken me through some hard country, both the kind you find on a map and the kind you do not. I have been in genuinely bad situations and come out the other side, and what those years taught me is that steadiness and humor are not opposites. They are partners. I take the work seriously. If you work with me, expect thoroughness, straight answers, and at least one (possibly cheesy) joke you did not see coming. Not everyone has appreciated the humor over the years, but it has carried me through everything life has thrown, and I am not retiring it now.

What I bring to a property or a reading is not a technique I learned last spring. It is decades of relationships with land, spirits, and the unseen roads that run through this region, plus the scars and lessons that come with that kind of time in the field.

What the Grove Is Not

I will be straight with you, because that is how I run everything else. The Grove is not a managed community. There are no membership tiers, no scheduled circles, no forum I moderate at two in the morning. I tried on the idea of building that kind of space and realized it would pull me away from the actual work, and the work comes first.

What happens instead is looser and, I think, healthier. People find the Grove, some become clients, some become students, some just read the blog and take what they need. I teach as I go, so that when a clearing is done, you can tend your own space without me. That is the whole point. I am not building a flock. I am handing out tools and watching people walk off stronger than they arrived. If paths cross again down the road, good. If they do not, the work still holds.

There is a fellowship in that, even without meetings. The wolf does not need the pack in sight to know it exists.

The Banner

The banner of the Grove came through many Seidr workings, and it was the signal that it was time to bring this practice into the open. Every element on it earned its place.

Rooted in Tradition--Working in the Present

The old ways were never meant to sit behind glass. The Norse and Celtic traditions I work within were living systems, and they stayed alive by ADAPTING. That is how I practice. The runes I work with are the same ones cut into staves a thousand+ years ago, but the homes I clear have Wi-Fi and the clients I teach text me/email their follow-up questions. The tradition does not mind. It never did.
